Rhubarb Strawberry Wine & even more Rhubarb Wine

Last year I had a hell of a lot of rhubarb so I made an equal hell of a lot of wine.

First up!

Rhubarb Strawberry Wine

Started 6/4/17

Ingredients

2 lbs rhubarb

1 lbs Strawberries

1 gallon water

1 tsp yeast nutrient

.75 tsp pectic enzyme

Rhubarb Wine

3 lbs rhubarb

1 gallon water

1 tsp yeast nutrient

.75 tsp pectic enzyme

Boiled water adding sugar and rhubarb (strawberries) for about 45 minutes or so. After the boil, I lined my 2.5 gallon Mr. Beer barrel with mesh straining bag and put the pot into the ice bath to bring down temperature before poured its contents into the plastic barrel. I tied the bag of fruit and covered the barrel so no fruitflies would get in and let it cool before adding the yeast. Then it’s off to a dark corner of my office for a week or so. Like last time when I did this recipe I boiled the fruits to kill off unwanted yeast and bacteria but now I use campden tablets.

Secondary Fermentation 6/11/17

Bottled 8/26/17

Added 3 tsp sugar per gallon, also added stabilizer.

This made a really sweet but delicious wine.

For those who read this I omitted some of the more boring details, but if you are looking for step by step of wine make check out the millions of videos on YouTube, that’s how I learned. Good luck and have fun!

Update 7/22/18

Just popped open a bottle of Rhubarb Wine and the sugary taste has really mellowed out giving it a nice even flavor.

I would check happily check the flavor of the Rhubarb Strawberry Wine but that was gone months ago.

Rhubarb Wine (1st try)

This was my first shot at winemaking after making some decent tasting apple cider. Turned out really good.

Started 5/12/17

Ingredients

2 gallons Water

8 lbs sugar

8.5 lbs rhubarb

1 tsp yeast nutrient

.75 tsp pectic enzyme (added after fertilization started)

I made this in my 5 gallon wine bucket but only made 3 gallons, liked to brew small back then.

Boiled water adding sugar and rhubarb for about 45 minutes or so. I think I was using frozen rhubarb. After the boil, I lined my 5 gallon bucket with mesh straining bag and put the pot into the ice bath to bring down temperature before poured its contents into the 5 gallon bucket. I tied the bag of fruit and covered the bucket so no fruitflies would get in and let it cool before adding the yeast. Then it’s off to a dark corner of my office for a week or so. Back when I did this recipe I boiled the fruits to kill off unwanted yeast and bacteria but now I use campden tablets.

Secondary Fermentation 6/4/17

Bottled 8/26/17

When bottling I added 3 tsp sugar to each gallon and added stabler.

First taste 11/12/17

Tastes great, although a little sweeter than I prefer.

He-Man (Masters Of The Universe Movie)

I was watching the Masters Of The Universe movie the other day and I did a quick drawing of the movie version of He-Man. 31 years and there are still no great pictures showing the designs on the armor. Also I hate the boots.

Winston Zeddemore

Always liked the box art on the Real Ghostbusters toys and that was what I was originally going for, but then I had already drawn the Proton Pack on Winston’s back so then I went for something a little different. I also included Chomper Ghost from the original toy.

Black Panther

Haven’t watched Black Panther yet, but the previews were so cool I had to draw something. I have heard literally nothing but good reviews for this movie and can’t wait to see it.

New Adventures of He-Man

Been on a New Adventures of He-Man kick and decided to draw a battle damage He-Man, maybe how he would look on a baseball card or something. As usual always fun to draw He-Man.

Leatherhead

Wanted to draw Leatherhead and I figured April and Michelangelo might be an interesting team-up.
